By Rail: Umaria is the nearest railway station on Katni-Bilaspur section of the south-eastern railway. Other nearby railway stations are Katni and Jabalpur.

By Air: The nearest civil airport is Jabalpur followed by Khajuraho and Nagpur which is 190, 275 and 460 km away from Tala.

Open Time for Tourism: The core zone remains open for tourism from 1st October to 30th June every year.  * Buffer zone is open for tourism throughout the year.

Total area of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve: The total area of the tiger reserve is 1536.93 sq km which includes 716.90 Sq. Km of core and 820.03 Sq. Km of buffer.

Off-days for park safaris: The park safari is unavailable when the park is closed to the visitors on the day of “Holi” and “Diwali” and each Wednesday evening.

Tourism in Bandhavgarh Fort: Bandhavgarh Fort is not open for tourism. Only on three occasions mainly for religious purposes i.e. Krishna Janmastami Mela, Kabir Mela and Sen Samaj Mela fort is open for devotees.

Booking of Safari Permit: Permit for safari can be booked in advance at https://forest.mponline.gov.in/search.aspx  Permits are also available at the designated KIOSKs and Van Chetna Kendra, Tala (official Permit counter).

Tourism zones: There are six tourism zones in this tiger reserve in which three of them are in core zone (Tala, Magadhi and Khitauli) and the other three in buffer (Dhamokhar, Panpatha and Manpur). The safari is permitted only for the zone for which it is booked for. Other zones shall remain out of bound for the visitor.

Number of safari vehicles permitted per day (carrying capacity): 111 vehicles are permitted to enter the park per day, including morning and afternoon safari. Tala accommodates 40 vehicles, Magadhi accommodates 40 vehicles and Khitauli accommodates 31 vehicles per day, including the morning and evening safari. The zone wise information of carrying capacities is given below:

Mobile phones during park safari: Visitors are allowed to take their mobile/cell phones during park safari for photography but it will be mandatory for them to keep their phone in silent mode during excursion.

Number of safari vehicles permitted per day for full day photography/filming: Only 5 vehicles are permitted per day for full day photography/filming. They are permitted to visit all the three core tourism zones for excursion with full day photography/filming entry Permit but only on those routes which are open for tourism.

Rescheduling of Safari Permit: Tourists can re-schedule their travel date and tourism zone (of the same protected area) on their online booked safari permit subject to availability. For such re-scheduling, they have to pay portal fee of Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 on each re-scheduling.

Procedure for Add-Ons: Add-ons can be done online or at the Permit booking counter (offline) on the condition that there are atleast two tourists present in the originally booked permit. Then, only once, maximum four additional tourist names will be added into the permit. For such addition, a total fee of Rs. 1,500 will be payable.

Note: For the children aged between 5-12 years, single seat fee will be half of the fee mentioned in table and seat will be provided to them in the safari vehicle. Children below five year of age will be entitled for free entry and they will share the seat occupied by their parents.

Note: A) Permission for filming/photography/video/picturing in the core areas of the tiger reserves shall be given by the Field Director in the name of camera-man.

         B) Camera-man also has to pay the charge of vehicle and guide amounting to Rs.7500 and Rs.700 respectively.

Booking elephant for tourism and photography / filming: Elephant ride can be booked only from the Permit Booking Counter, Tala. Provision for above purpose is mentioned below:

For Tourism: Maximum four persons shall be allowed to sit on an elephant, excluding Mahout. Children up to 5 years of age shall be allowed free, along with their parents / guardians. Rules and routes for elephant rides will be determined by the officer in-charge of the protected area. Duration of the elephant ride shall be one hour, for which Rs 1,000 fee per person will be payable. For the children age between 5-12 years fee will be half to the fee. But for the calculation of seat, it will be considered as a full.

For Video Filming / Photography: On the demand of cameraman, who has a permission for Video Filming / Photography, the elephant can be given for three hours, if available, on payment of following fee:

Availing concession for school students / trainees / trainers and support staff: Authorised study tour of students belonging to recognized educational institutions shall be charged 50 percent of the entry fee if prior information is given for such authorized study tours. However, institutions in equation have to book online Permits as per the norms, and only on reaching the entry gate and showing relevant original permission letter, the 50 percent amount will be returned in cash. This facility shall be allowed to an institution once in a year. The head of the recognized educational institute needs to write a letter to this giving the names of all the subjects and teachers / faculties accompanying them on the safari.

Mandatory documents that need to be carried during the safari: All the visitors are required to produce the entry permit and one of the identity cards (Adhar Card, Voter ID, Driving License, PAN Card, Govt. Employee Card, Passport and Student ID) on demand by the park officials for verification at the entry point.

In case permit holders turn up late at the entry gate: The permit is valid till one hour for full vehicle and half an hour for single seat after the scheduled entry time. If they fell to arrive by this time their permit will be considered automatically cancelled and such permit will be available for booking as single seat permit at the entry gate.

Activities that can be taken up in the Core Zone of the Tiger Reserve: Only safari on vehicles on the defined routes is permitted in the Core Zone of the Tiger Reserve. Walking on foot or getting off the vehicles is strictly prohibited. Tourists are allowed to take snacks at assigned centre points i.e. Hardiya (Tala), Bannakha (Magadhi) and Merry (Khitauli) which is run and managed by locals.

Activities that can taken up in the Buffer Zone of the Tiger Reserve: There are three tourism zones in Buffer i.e. Dhamokhar (Zone IV), Panpatha (Zone V) and Manpur (Zone VI) which provides safari opportunity to tourists.

Number of vehicles allowed for safari in the Buffer Zone: There is no capping on safari vehicles in Buffer Zones.
